What is the Lab Pro™?

The Lab Pro™ is a high-performance hand-held green laser module developed by Extreme Lasers to fulfill the ever-changing requirements of our clients. The product was designed to meet various challenges that competing products failed to achieve. The core benefits of this exclusive product will be outlined below.

What is it used for?

• Astronomy: Because of the intensity of the beam, you can effectively point out stars in the night sky and the beam will be visible for many miles away. (FDA Variance Req.)

• Construction: The laser beam can be used for various alignment jobs such as; highway striping, painting, timber cutting, construction, etc.

• Film Production: Lasers are becoming a growing trend in movie making where producers use them for special effects. Many movies have used green lasers during production, most famously - Spiderman. One of the major problems was portability - we eliminated that problem.

• Research: Almost every physics department does some type of 532nm laser experimentation. The portability of the Lab Pro™ makes the job much more efficient.

Safety

Safety is one of our major concerns. For that reason, the Lab Pro™ comes equipped with a 5-Part Safety System. The first part is a remote interlock system which is located on the end cap. This is used to automatically shut the laser off in case of an emergency. The second safety feature is a key-switch. The laser comes with a set of keys. In order to turn the laser on, the key must be inserted, and placed into the "On" position. The third and fourth safety features include a red LED light located in front of the On/Off button which turns on before the laser beam is emitted. It has a delay to give yourself and others a visual warning that the laser is coming on. Once the laser is "On," the red LED will remain illuminated. The fifth and final safety feature is a laser aperture shutter. This shutter is located at the laser aperture (emission hole) and can be used to block the beam from being emitted without actually turning the laser off.

Legality

The Center for Devices of Radiological Health, division of the Food & Drug Administration, is responsible for regulating all commercial products which emit radiation, including lasers. In order for a laser product to be approved by the FDA, it must adhere to strict compliance guidelines which include things such as appropriate labeling and safety features. The Lab Pro™ is FDA Approved.

Points of Consideration

Several unscrupulous companies are selling green laser pointers that are emitting more than 5mW of power. Not only are these lasers dangerous because they lack any safety features, they are also highly illegal and completely unreliable. They are able to effectively increase the power of the laser pointers by increasing the current flowing to the pump diode. However, by doing this the diode is forced to work above threshold and the life is cut by as much as 80-95%. For this very reason the companies offer 90 day warranties, and sometimes as little as 30 days. Another reason for failure is that there is no way to cool the laser.
